Sheila Singh

Dr. Singh is a Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Biochemistry at McMaster University, a pediatric neurosurgeon at Hamilton Health Sciences, and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Human Cancer Stem Cell Biology. She is the founding Director of the Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research, the McMaster Surgeon-Scientist Program, and the Pediatric Brain Tumour Study Group.

Dr. Singh received her MD from McMaster University and completed both a PhD in Molecular Biology and a Neurosurgery residency at the University of Toronto, where her doctoral research first identified cancer stem cells driving brain tumour formation. Her laboratory now applies a developmental neurobiology approach to understand brain cancers and translate discoveries into new therapies.

Recognized with the Jenna Chiavelli Cutting Edge Research Award, Dr. Singh brings the dual perspective of surgeon and scientist to improving outcomes for patients with brain disease.
