Jakob Magolan, PhD
Co-Founder and Head of Chemistry
Prof. Magolan is Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University and the inaugural Boris Family Endowed Chair of Drug Discovery.
He earned his PhD in organic chemistry from Western University, followed by postdoctoral research in anti-cancer medicinal chemistry at the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery in Australia. Prof. Magolan began his independent career at the University of Idaho, where he established an NSF-funded program in synthetic methodology and drug discovery before returning to Canada in 2017.
At McMaster, his research team develops new synthetic methods and applies them to collaborative drug discovery programs across a range of therapeutic areas. His group is equally motivated by the need for fundamental innovations in organic chemistry that provide new tools and processes to advance the science of synthesis.
