Mathew Piotrowski, PhD

Mathew is an organic chemist specializing in the synthesis of complex heterocycles and bioactive natural products. He earned his PhD in organic chemistry from The University of Western Ontario, where he studied donor–acceptor cyclopropanes as intermediates in heterocycle construction. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at McMaster University with Dr. Jakob Magolan, developing novel antibiotics and anti-cancer agents, and later worked as a Research Associate with Naturally Synthetic Inc. Today, Mathew is lead medicinal chemist with Block Biosciences, where he focuses on developing new anti-cancer drugs to prevent lung-to-brain metastasis.
